Co-parenting - Considering Co-Parenting?

Thinking about Co-Parenting?

What is co-parenting?

Co-Parenting has traditionally meant separated or divorced couples who share access rights to their children and whilst they may not be a couple or live together both parties take it in turns to care for the child or children. However over the past decade in particular, there has been a sharp rise in the number of single men, women and gay and lesbian couples who wish to have a baby through a co-parenting agreement.

In this instance co-parenting means an agreement, either verbal or written, would be in place before conception to enable both parties to have access to the child’s upbringing at an agreed level of involvement. In response to this rapidly growing trend the first co-parenting website was set up by Co-ParentMatch.com to help single men, women and gay and lesbian couples to find a co-parenting match.

If you are a lesbian who would like to have the father involved in your child's life or you are a gay man who would like to be known as the child's father and have more involvement in their upbringing than a sperm donor would then co-parenting is a great option.

If you are in a lesbian or gay relationship, co-parenting is becoming an increasingly popular option. The level of legal parental responsibility would depend on whether you are a single lesbian, or a civil partnered lesbian couple and the amount of contact each couple wish to have with the child. All issues of contact and responsibility must be clearly communicated prior to insemination taking place. It is strongly recommended that legal advice is sought and a donor or co-parenting agreement is in place to reduce any potential problems with co-parenting situations.

Co-parenting Options

Co-Parenting is as complex as you wish to make it. Quite simply if you are looking for a co parent match you are searching for a person to help you become a parent and a person who will be involved in your life, in one way or another, for many years to come.

Women may be searching for a male who wishes to be known to the child and involved in his/her upbringing and men may be searching for a woman who is happy for them to father a child and be known to that child as their dad.
